Bănița 🗡️
Fortress ⚔️
Ancient fortress,
the eagles’ nest 🦅
We invite you on a journey through time, into the legends of this land — stories that tell of the 🦅 Getae who clung to the cliffs like eagles 🦅 on peaks almost impossible to conquer. Built on a limestone rock rising 146 meters high, with three steep walls, Burebista’s Bastion, the Bănița Fortress, was practically unconquerable! Its mission was to block access to Sarmizegetusa Regia from the south.
🏹 He ruled nearly a quarter of Europe ⚔️ Between 82 and 44 BC, Burebista united all the Getae tribes into a vast kingdom — bordered to the north by what are now the Czech Republic and Slovakia, to the south by the Balkan Mountains, to the west by the middle Danube (around modern-day Vienna), and to the east by the mouth of the Bug River. Today, a journey to the eagles’ nest of the great Burebista, Bănița Fortress, reveals the southern defensive bastion of the Dacian capital, Sarmizegetusa Regia.
